Lily Pond Pines
- SQF 1,068
The house is quiet in Eastham as the family sleeps in late. You grab your coffee mug and slip out the back slider to the deck, choose a pair of flip flops from the pile, and pad through the rustling pines down the path to the chair by the pond. As you sip your coffee, the dragonflies dance from lily pad to lily pad, resting every few seconds to show off the brilliant colorful patterns of their wings. The lilies slowly open their blossoms to the warming sun and the turtles break the surface of the calm and still water to peer at you, as if to say good morning, before diving amongst the reeds in search of their breakfast.
It’s time to get your own breakfast. Should you all head out to Laura and Tony’s for the all you can eat homemade breakfast, or serve up pancakes in your outdoor dining room with views of the pond? With a full-size kitchen and two dining areas, there is plenty of room for everyone to rise and shine in their own time.
You all walk to Thumpertown Beach to spend the day but once the heat of the day sets in and the little ones are tired of the beach toys, it’s time to head back to the lily pond in the pines. A rinse in the outside shower before a dip in the wading pool is just the thing to refresh the soul for the days next adventure. Being in the Heart of Cape Cod has its advantages. Should you hop on the bikes in the shed and take a ride down the Cape Cod Rail Trail just across the road? Or maybe walk to Arnolds. Beachcombing, fried clams, the drive-in theater, and shopping. These are just a few of the things on this week’s to-do list. Maybe tonight everyone will want burgers and hot dogs cooked on the new Weber grill. And afterwards you will find out if they are called “jimmies” or “sprinkles” on your ice creams.
After dinner, everyone is freshly showered and smelling of aloe and after-sun products. The kids run ahead with their juice boxes as you pack the carry all with your plastic wine glasses and wine. Everyone gathers to watch the sun as it gives its final display of pinks, blues, and purples before dropping below the horizon. The crowd on the beach applauds as you raise your glass in appreciation to mother nature for another glorious day on Cape Cod.
